DRAG REDUCTION ON A GENERIC HIGH-PERFORMANCE ROAD-CAR
The above animation depicts the results of a drag reduction study on a generic high-performance road car. A parametric optimization of the bodywork shape has been carried out to show the potential for aerodynamic assessment and development in CFD at the conceptual design stage of vehicle design development.
Traditionally, the approach to design optimization in CFD has been to parameterize a CAD model and then re-mesh each new design. By using Optimal Solutions Sculptor real-time design alteration tool, design changes are made directly to the CFD case file, thus removing the need to re-CAD/re-mesh. The result is a dramatic reduction of man-time required to design the model.
